Women We Love: Olamide Majekodunmi

Money, money, money... whether we like it or not, finance is an inevitably intrinsic part of everyone's life. When it comes to budgeting and looking after your money, it can be difficult to know what to do for the best- especially in your early adulthood, when that one lesson on loans in school didn't *quite* cut it.

Thankfully, there is an abundance of information out there to guide you along your financial path. Whilst some of it may feel overwhelming, Olamide Majekodunmi aims to turn the subject of money into something much more digestable. She is the founder of online platform, All Things Money- a podcast and online community that aims to answer all of your financial needs.

We love what Ola is doing and we were lucky enough to chat to her about her platform and why she does what she does. Welcome to nuddy diaries, Ola...

Hey honey! Please can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell them a little bit about what you do.

Hello! My name is Ola, I’m 24 and I am the founder of All Things Money, an online platform that aims to cover a wide range of personal finance topics we weren’t taught about at school from budgeting, saving, investing and everything else in between!

Talk us through your journey- how did you get to where you are today in your career?

So, I actually graduated last year in the midst of the pandemic (fun times) and I originally had plans to move to Australia that September which sadly couldn’t go ahead! So, to keep myself occupied during the first lockdown, I created All Things Money which started off as an Instagram page to share financial tips and information as I’m sure a lot of us know that we are not taught about credit cards, mortgages, investing and a whole load of other topics at school, so I decided to take it upon myself to teach others about these topics! Since then, we have now become a community of over 9,000 people and we have just launched a fairly new podcast too! I think it’s safe to say that this journey certainly wasn’t planned. However, I am very much enjoying where I am right now!

We think it’s super important to set yourself both personal and professional goals. What are yours and how are you working towards achieving them?

That’s a good question. Right now, my main goal is to grow the podcast as that is my latest project. It has been amazing seeing the number of listeners grow each week, so my main goal is to grow it even more! Another goal of mine is to host more personal finance talks for schools and universities. I have hosted a number of talks already and I absolutely love doing them, so if I can host more on a regular basis, that would be the dream!

We think you’re a hugeeeee inspiration- who is your biggest personal inspiration and what was it about them that made you stop and take note?

Thank you so much! One of my biggest personal inspirations is Patricia Bright. I have absolutely loved watching her grow into the successful businesswoman she is today. I watched her youtube videos when she first started out and seeing how her consistency and drive to create amazing content has got her to where she is today is just so inspiring.

We absolutely LOVE what you do- what does it mean to you to be able to do what you love every day?

Ooooh that is a good question! For me, I think it’s important to wake up excited about the day you have ahead of you! I have recently gone part-time at work to focus more time on All Things Money, so being able to devote more time into the platform is so exciting, and I can’t wait to see what else I can achieve with more time on my hands!

So many people are nervous to break out and try something new- but you did. What piece of advice would you give to people who want to try something different but are too scared to take the risk?

I say this all the time but my biggest piece of advice to anyone reading this is, if you have an idea, no matter how crazy, daunting or intimidating it is, take that leap. Honestly, I remember how scared I was to post my first Instagram post on All Things Money, but I am so so glad that I did! I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t take that first step!

What positive impact do you hope to have on those within your community?

I really hope that All Things Money has helped people feel more empowered about their finances. We are often left to fend for ourselves straight out of school and university, so the main aim is for All Things Money to help young people through that process and I hope we have achieved this so far!

We all know that life ain’t no breeze. What is one piece of advice you can offer to people in your community to help make things that little bit easier?

Life really isn’t a breeze- I really wish it was! However, I do believe that everything happens for a reason, so my advice is to just trust the process. I know what it’s like to receive endless job rejection emails, have no idea what to do with my life, have my dream to live in Australia postponed. But, if any of these things did happen, then I almost definitely wouldn’t be where I am right now! I never trusted my friend when she used to tell me this, but believe things will work out and they really will! And remember, it’s okay not to have a plan!
