10 Step Guide To Self Love This Valentine’s Day.

We all know Valentine’s Day as a day devoted to the one you loveeee. But what if, this year, that one you loved was yourself? Let’s be honest, we’re all guilty of neglecting ourselves a little. In the midst of day-to-day life, we sometimes forget to focus on no1. That’s why we’ve put together a 10-step guide to self-love for you this valentine’s day!

1. Put yourself first

It may sound a bit simple, but it’s important to remember no1. It’s so easy to get carried away doing things that make other people happy, but if it’s not what you want – don’t do it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to be nice, but not if it means sacrificing your own happiness to do so.

2. Comparison will kill you

You are unique and that is amazing! Stop looking at what others are doing and thinking you need to do the same. Social media is a powerful thing, but more times than not, people only post their ‘best bits’. So, sometimes, it’s not a bad thing to step back and take a break to focus on YOU.

3. Surround yourself with positive people

Your energy is determined by the people you spend your time with. Surround yourself with people who know your worth and make you feel nothing less than wonderful. Be a radiator, not a drain; Spend time with people who radiate good energy, not drain it out of you!

4. Golden hour

Give yourself an hour out of your day to have a little bit of ‘me-time’. Make yourself a cup of tea, read a chapter of your favourite book, run yourself a bath. Whatever it is that you choose, disconnect with the world for sixty minutes and focus on you.

5. Do something that makes you smile

Remember it’s important to do things that make you happy. So, fill your free time with something that interests you and puts a smile on your face 😊 Find your happy place!

6. Write it…

Writing down your thoughts is a great way of emptying your head. Whether you jot down an idea you have or write a list to organise your day, writing is a great form of expression (and sometimes therapy). If your mind is full write down your ideas; If your mind is empty, read for inspiration.

7. Be grateful

Showing gratitude for things in your life creates a positive mindset and reminds you how incredible life can be. Take a bit of time out of your day to say thank you and reflect on things in life that you’re grateful for.

8. Exercise isn’t your worst enemy

Exercise is a great way to keep active and make yourself feel good. But that doesn’t mean you have to sign up to your closest gym. Pop your headphones in and go for a walk or get down to your local pool and go for a swim. Whatever you choose, remember exercise should be enjoyed, so make it suit you!

9. Have goals and dreams

Writing down your goals and dreams can give you direction in life. And as a result, increase your self-worth. Sometimes we can get a little bit lost, so having goals and dreams to work towards can remind us of where we’re going. And not to mention how great we are!

10. When in doubt, dance it out

As well as making you feel happy, dancing releases feel-good endorphins into the blood stream. And if that wasn’t enough, it also helps reduce levels of Cortisol – a stress hormone. So, tell Alexa to play your favourite song and get dancing around your kitchen like no one’s watching!
